There are a number of free virtualisation products on the market. You can download and use them to learn about and get into virtualisation. Below I have compiled a list of the most commonly used and known products.
This is not a comprehensive list of products. If you know of one or want it added then let me know! Microsoft Virtual PC Microsoft used to charge for this product but due to competition and the development of new technology it is now free. They still charge for the mac version though. Microsoft Virtual Server Microsoft also used to charge for this product and this is now also free. Download it and give it a go. Originally a connectix product. VMware Server VMware's free server virtualisation product. Enabled you to run virtual servers on a windows or linux x86 platform. VMware Player This product allows you to play virtual machine files. Xen The open source alternative. Not to be confused with XenSource the open source and commercial alternative based on Xen. Created by the University of Cambridge. |
