ESX 3.0 Service Console Commands There are a whole bunch of new commands that can be run at the service console in ESX 3.0. Here is a list of the esxcfg commands and what they can do for you. While a majority can be done in VirtualCenter and it is recommended that they are done through VC you have the option to be a command line warrior. This is not always recommended. Read on.
esxcfg-advcfg - Sets advanced VMKernel options esxcfg-auth - Configure Authentication esxcfg-boot - Configure boot information, this includes PCI allocations. esxcfg-dumppart - Show dump partition information, and configure dump partition information. esxcfg-firewall - Firewall config for the service console esxcfg-info - Information about the VMKernel, Service console and subsystems. esxcfg-info - DO NOT RUN MANUALLY - Initialisation for initrd esxcfg-linuxnet - This command will convert vswif network devices into eth for linux booting and config. esxcfg-mpath - Configure multipathing esxcfg-nas - NAS filesystem, management, addition or deletion esxcfg-rescan - Rescan your SCSI luns. esxcfg-resgrp - Resource group creation and deletion. esxcfg-route - VMKernel Nic routing enable or disable. esxcfg-swscsi - iSCSI software adapter configuration esxcfg-upgrade - DO NOT RUN MANUALLY - Upgrade esx 2.x to esx 3.0 esxcfg-vmhbadevs - command to create the mapping between Console Operating System device file and vmhba name. esxcfg-vmknic - Create and configure the VMKernel nics esxcfg-vswif - Create and configure the vswifs for the Console Operating System. esxcfg-vswitch - Port groups, and virtual switch creation/configuration. |
