If you cannot change performance metrics or shares on an ESX 2.x host with VirtualCenter 2.0 then you are not alone. The error message that appears every time any metrics are changed is "Invalid Virtual Machine Configuration". It appears to be a bug or just something that is not possible at this stage.

You can change them by going to the MUI on the host in question and doing it in there. To do this, click on the VM's name and go to the item you want to tweak. It is a little more tedious but does the job until the problem is resolved.
