Mike Laverick has done it again! This time he has developed a service console command line guide for ESX 3 and virtualcenter 2. I cannot imaging how much effort and time Mike is putting into his terrific guides. The service console guide is not aimed at beginners, so if you are a newbie then sure take a look but be careful. This guide has some fantastic information but can even get you in a spot of bother rather quickly if you are not fully aware of what you are doing. It is a pdf, so make sure you have a pdf viewer and grab it from here. |

So I spent all day trying to resolve two problems, these are problems that more than one person has with the new Virtual Infrastructure products and I hope to outline possible workarounds and solutions to them. While there are not any clear solutions at this stage, there are things you can do. Updated 27/07/06 |

Invalid Virtual Machine Configuration |

If you cannot change performance metrics or shares on an ESX 2.x host with VirtualCenter 2.0 then you are not alone. The error message that appears every time any metrics are changed is "Invalid Virtual Machine Configuration". It appears to be a bug or just something that is not possible at this stage. You can change them by going to the MUI on the host in question and doing it in there. To do this, click on the VM's name and go to the item you want to tweak. It is a little more tedious but does the job until the problem is resolved. There is a thread on the VMware forums about this, but not much more help than what I have already posted above. If you want to read it, click here. |
