I know a few people were talking about some problems they have been having with VMWare Converter at the VIC user Group so I thought I would ask the question here.

I am trying to cold migrate an NT4 (SP6) machine using the VMWare Converter 3 boot CD. I go to p2V just the c: and it gets to 97% and fails. I have heard that it wouldn't like the Compaq partition that gets created, but I have only chosen to convert the boot C:.

Is there anything I can try ?

We are running VI3.

Sorry for the late reply - I only just joined the forum.......

There is a limitation in the current version of converter in that it will fail at 97% when doing a hot clone if:
1. You have a hidden diagnostic vendors partition on the disk and
2. Your partitions are dynamic disks
It makes no difference if you are only selecting specific partitions or cloning an entire disk.

The issue is expected to be resolved in the next release of converter but you should be able to work around it by performing a cold clone.

Tried cold migration, that's where I get the 97%. Hot migration wouldn't work, it would come up with an application error every time.
