Do you want to join the SA user group ? 2 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 1
We are trying to recruit people to join in a South Australian VMWare user group. If you are interested, sign up and post a message.

Hey there.

It's a good idea to get this started mate. I'm looking forward to seeing some Adelaide Vmware people and sharing info / experiences.

I've been working with Vmware for around 2 years, started in GSX have been esx for most of the two years. I have about 6 hosts and am currently growing the number of vm's rapidly.

Running the majority of the ESX hosts on 2.5.3 Patch 1, on HP Hardware. BL25p, DL385, DL380G3.

Cheers

Definately keen to get this running. Have been working with virtualisation technology for a couple of years now and got certified as a VCP in esx 2.x. Working on a site with approx 30 esx hosts and approx 100 vm's.

Sounds like a great way to talk about tips and tricks and share knowledge that is not so easy to come by. With VI3 and VC2 coming out, it will be great to have people to bounce ideas off as well.

I wonder, if there are enough people in Australia to justify a group per state? maybe it would be better to have an Australian group first and then hive off local chapters when we are all drowning in members?

Also have you spoken to VMware in Sydney yet ?

A little about myself, been working with VMware since the workstation beta days, and most recently I helped design and install and now troubleshoot a 160 node esx farm runing on blades spilt between 2 data centers, which is unfortunatly for me hosted in our US office...

Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure on the numbers of people, but I have heard that there are unofficial user groups already popping up in each state. So that is my reasoning behind the splitout of the sections.

We also have people volunteering to moderate each state and spread the word. I know in SA that we should be able to get around 10 people at this stage once the word spreads.

I did contact Andre Kemp via email regarding the site, either I got the wrong email address or he chose not to reply

As for anyone else in VMWare, I havent really tried to contact them though we did make the vmtn blog which suggested that we are running user groups to people that were visiting the blog.

Where are you located ? Which state ?

You should also put something in the ANZ VMware User Group http://www.vmware.com/community/forum.jspa?forumID=68

Andre is posting in there.

He can take some time to reply sometimes, the vmware addresses are in a fairly easy format.

Hard to say how much effort the regional offices make with this sort of thing. I would suggest calling there Sydney office and ask to speak to someone in marketing/PR to discuss involvement in usergroups.

I'm in the Sydney CDB.
