I dropped on this website by mistake whilst t-shooting an ESX issue the other day.
but whilst I am here I thought I would Ask if there were many VM roles in NZ (Auckland) as i planning on emigrating
in the next 6 months.

I have been a wintel techy for the last 11yrs and got v bored so i thought I would give esx a go and i am luving it.

I'm in a similar position, except my 7 years experience is in Solaris, and i will be coming to New Zealand in roughly 10 months. Doesn't look like you've had much joy with any responses yet, has anybody even given you a push in the right direction?

Just passed VCP and i am keen to see what jobs are on offer in NZ also. I suppose you've had a look on www.candlerecruit.com - looks like there's a few vmware jobs in OZ, but none in NZ i'm afraid - any other good NZ IT recruitment sites you might know of? If i hear anything i'll let you know, are you on _link_edIn?

There are quite a few VMware jobs in Auckland and Wellington if you know where to look.

My suggestion is to look at Seek (www.seek.co.nz) and see what's on offer there. Most of the agencies use this to post their roles.

Another site to check out is JobUniverse (www.jobuniverse.co.nz) and trademe jobs (www.trademe.co.nz - look for the jobs section).

Good luck on your quest, and you have made the right choice in looking to move to NZ. It's a great place (I made the move 5 years ago).

there are heaps of jobs in NZ for virtualisation people.
Depends what you are after I guess....

sysadmin roles are plentiful, but more thank likely you will have to be a jack of all trades.
i.e MS, VMware, unix etc

One of my buddies recently cracked a job with IBM and he is really happy with it.

Correct. as NZ is a much smaller market than most other places, you do need to have quite a few skills in order to succeed.

The hardest thing I found was switching from solely servicing a huge worldwide Exchange installation to having to look after all manner of OS's, applications and data...

The most challenging roles are also often the most rewarding.
And really, who can complain when you have the beauty of new zealand day to day

Next year I am planning a ski trip to NZ, and really looking forward the fresh powder.
